MALAYSIA EVANGELICAL THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY

METS, as a Theological Educational Institution of the BEM that provides tertiary-level theological education and ministerial training for those called to the ministry, was founded to equip men and women who are called of God for works of service in His church in Malaysia and beyond. In line with this purpose, METS seeks to develop students in the area of spiritual life, academic competence and the art of ministry within the calling of each student.

ETHOS

METS values community living as an important part of students training for the ministry. For this reason, life in METS is community-oriented. Staff and students who come from diverse ethnic and cultural background, live together on campus and share a considerable common life in worship and prayer, studies, domestic duties, meals, games and interaction. To facilitate such community living, METS has
introduced the following activities that become integral part of its community life: Discipleship Care Unit, Family Outline, Annual Retreat, Corporate Morning Devotion, Chapel, Corporate Prayer Meeting, Games and Work Party. We believe that such a community provides a healthy environment for (and offers lessons in) relationships, tolerance, humility, forgiveness, growth (spiritual and social), character formation, etc. lesson that will be invaluable for the students in their lives and ministries as God’s servants.

00 Mission & Vision Statement 01.png

Our motto “Training for Service” succinctly summarizes our philosophy. We believe that theological education and ministerial training must be a healthy balance of the academic, the practical and the reflective. Our training therefore, is designed to develop within the student a good understanding of the Scripture and the Christian heritage (doctrine and history), mastery of the art of ministry within the calling and
the context of the student and scholarship. We believe that theological education is not simply “doing ministry” (where the sole focus is on ministry-oriented courses). Neither is it just doing research in the library or attending lectures in the classroom. Theological education consists of content (which focuses on the academic and is reflected in the Institution’s curriculum and course syllabi) application (which focuses on the practical and is worked out in the students’ practicum), and reflection (integration of theology/theory and practice in the lives and ministries of the students). Only when all three are properly maintained can the students be properly and truly “trained for service”.
